Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) or Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) allow savings in the heating and cooling of high volume ventilation air, also known as makeup air.
Many facilities require high volumes of exhaust such as industrial facilities and hotels. All exhaust air being removed is re-introduced back into the building through a makeup air unit where outdoor air has to be heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. There is opportunity to pre-heat/cool this outdoor air with energy contained in the existing exhaust air. Significant energy savings are available.
