LASER CONTROLS Creates HUGE Energy Savings for the Scarborough General Hospital – Medical Wing

Laser Controls continues to grow its presence in the Ontario Energy market with some of its recent work at the Scarborough General Hospital – Medical Wing. Laser completed an Energy Scoping Study and identified Energy Efficiency Opportunities with their HVAC system which could reduce their current electrical consumption. The proposal was approved providing Laser the opportunity to begin the development of an Energy Saving Program. To gain control of energy costs Laser installed Unloaders and Hot Gas Bypass on the RTU compressors, installed VFDs (Variable Frequency Drive) on the fan systems and installed a new Building Automation System (BAS).

Within the first month of operation, the building exceeded the estimated savings. The reduction in energy costs was $7,748 and is expected to save $90,000+ annually in hydro consumptions.

ROI
The project was approved through Ontario Power Authority (BOMA) and Enbridge. With incentive rebates of $38,600 from OPA and $6,000 from Enbridge the Scarborough General Hospital has a simple pay back of less than one year.
